Going Beyond the Four Walls of the Church

Community Ministry

The Chester Community Center, formerly the Chester Elementary School, is located at 46542 State Route 248. The three story brick building is “home” to a variety of local civic groups including Karate, Hearts and Hands Thrift Store, Manna and More Food Pantry and Upward Basketball. Throughout the year, the building is used for family reunions, birthday parties, wedding receptions, school alumni gatherings, extra-curricular school sports practices and a host of other activities. We are blessed to be able to offer this resource to our church family and community members. For more information or to inquire about renting the facility, please contact Tammi Barber at 740-667-6793 or 740-416-5370.

Upward Basketball at the Chester Community Center

Upward Sports, the world’s largest Christian sports program for children, was created with a vision to provide the best sports experience possible for every child. Each year some 1 million people around the world play, coach, referee, or volunteer in Upward Sports leagues and camps hosted by more than 2,600 churches. Anyone – children and volunteers of any faith or no faith – can participate in Upward Sports. Specifically designed for children in K5-sixth grade, Upward Sports aim to bring out “the winner” in every child – regardless of the game’s score. A typical season will last from 10–12 weeks, consisting of 2-4 weeks of practice before the first game day, 8 weeks of game play along with a weekly practice and one night of celebration.

We look forward to each season of Upward Basketball! Registration begins in October and evaluations are typically the first Saturday in November. Practice begins the first week of December. Games are held on Saturdays beginning in January. If you would like to become involved in this wonderful program, please call our church office.

Hearts and Hands Thrift Store, operated by volunteers from Bethel and the community, is located in the Chester Community Center. Low cost clothing, household appliances, decorations, toys and miscellaneous goods are available to the general public. Proceeds benefit the center and the annual Christmas Gift Giveaway held on the first Saturday of December.

Donations are always welcome and needed!

Manna and More Food Pantry, an outreach ministry of Bethel, is located at the Chester Community Center. Currently, food boxes are distributed to those in need who live in the Eastern Local School district as well as those who call Bethel their home church. Food donations and monetary support are always welcome.
